What to do if your dog's eyes are closed and have eye boogers

Firstly, it is recommended that the owner immediately clean the dog's eyes. Eye drops and cotton buds can be used together. This may be due to the long-term buildup of eye boogers around the dog's eyes, causing tear duct blockage. It is also advised to regularly clean the dog's eyes to prevent long-term buildup of eye boogers, which can lead to bacterial infections and inflammation of the eyes. If the dog's condition does not improve after cleaning and the eyes are still covered widely, it may be caused by eye diseases, and it is recommended to seek medical attention.

Dietary reasons

Usually, dogs will have increased eye secretions due to insufficient water intake, excessive meat consumption, improper diet, or weather conditions that cause internal heat. In combination with the owner's failure to clean regularly, it leads to an increase in eye boogers. In this case, it is recommended to adjust the dog's diet, provide plenty of water, clean the dog's eyes daily, and use eye drops for cleaning and treatment.

Eye diseases

Dog eye inflammation caused by colds or bacterial infections is characterized by symptoms similar to those of humans, but with increased eye secretions. Later, purulent secretions may occur. In this case, the owner should first clean the dog's eyes with anti-inflammatory dog-specific eye drops and observe. If the dog's condition does not improve, symptomatic treatment is needed at a pet hospital. Additionally, a light diet should be fed. If there are external injuries to the dog's eyes, it can also cause conjunctivitis and corneal damage, leading to an increase in secretions.

Usually, dog owners should pay attention to the color of the dog's secretions. If they are normal and resemble human eye boogers, clean with eye drops and observe if there is any improvement. Do not use human eye drops. If the secretions are purulent, it is necessary to pay attention, first apply anti-inflammatory measures, and then seek treatment at a pet hospital.
