What to do if your dog's stool is dry and hard

Dog dry and hard stool can be improved by adjusting the dog's diet, drinking more water, supplementing beneficial bacteria in the intestine, and increasing exercise. First, stop feeding the dog dry food and replace it with easily digestible and absorbable foods or easily digestible dog food, and let the dog drink more water. Secondly, feed the dog appropriately with 2-3 probiotics to improve the gastrointestinal environment, promote intestinal peristalsis, and help the dog defecate smoothly. In addition, owners should also make sure that their dogs get appropriate exercise in daily life, which can help strengthen the dog's gastrointestinal peristalsis and alleviate the dry and hard stool condition.

  1. Adjust the dog's diet

If the dog's usual diet is dry and it drinks little water, it is prone to constipation. Therefore, when the owner discovers that the dog has dry and hard stool, they need to adjust the dog's diet in time. For example, temporarily replace the dry and hard dog food with easily digestible and absorbable foods like minced meat congee, millet congee, and vegetable congee. You can also feed the dog some vegetables and fruits, such as bananas, carrots, and pumpkins, to promote digestion and alleviate the dry and hard stool condition.

  1. Drink more water

In addition to adjusting the dog's diet, the owner should also make sure that the dog drinks more water and replace it promptly. If the dog refuses to drink water, you can add sheep milk powder or honey to the water to encourage the dog to drink more. Or feed the dog some high-water-content foods like canned food or wet food.

  1. Supplement intestinal beneficial bacteria

Some dogs have limited digestive abilities and poor intestinal peristalsis. If the dog's stool is still dry and hard even after adjusting the diet, the owner can feed the dog some pet probiotics to promote intestinal peristalsis and alleviate the dry and hard stool condition. The owner should also pay attention to observe if there is no improvement after feeding the pet probiotics. If so, it is recommended to consult a pet doctor promptly.

  1. Increase exercise

Dogs who spend long periods of time indoors and lack exercise are prone to dry and hard stool and constipation. Therefore, owners should make sure their dogs get appropriate exercise, such as walking or jogging. And promptly replenish the dog's water supply. This can promote the dog's metabolic circulation and intestinal peristalsis, thereby alleviating the dry and hard stool condition and benefiting digestion.

Note: If there is no significant improvement after adopting the above methods and the dog's constipation lasts for a long time, it is recommended to consult a pet doctor and use enemas under their guidance to help the dog defecate.
