What should I do if my kitten keeps sneezing?
A kitten that keeps sneezing may be due to stimulation of the nasal mucosa, bacterial cold, viral cold, or rhinitis. First of all, if the nasal mucosa is stimulated, sneezing is a normal phenomenon and the owner does not need to be too worried. However, if the kitten is constantly sneezing and accompanied by other uncomfortable reactions, such as nasal itching and runny nose, it is recommended that the owner take the kitten to a regular hospital in time for inspection and adopt treatment measures according to the inspection results, otherwise it will easily affect the recovery of the disease.
- Nasal mucosa stimulation
Regular exposure to contaminated air can lead to dust entering the nose, stimulating the nasal mucosa and causing sneezing. Cleaning the nasal cavity with clear water to remove the dust can alleviate the symptoms, and generally no medication is required.
- Bacterial cold
It is mainly caused by bacterial infection and symptoms include cough, phlegm, and shortness of breath. As the number of bacteria in the body increases, it may damage the nasal cavity, causing constant sneezing. Antibiotic treatment should be taken under the guidance of a doctor.
- Viral cold
Usually caused by multiple virus infections, such as respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus, and parainfluenza virus, symptoms include nasal congestion, loss of smell, and clear nasal discharge. If the discharge is not handled in time, it may accumulate in the nasal cavity, damaging the nasal mucosa and causing frequent sneezing. Antiviral medication should be taken as directed by the doctor.
- Rhinitis
If a kitten has rhinitis, it will cause excessive itching in the nose, leading to uncomfortable breathing and sneezing. Hormonal sprays can be used for treatment under the guidance of a doctor. In severe cases, it is recommended that the owner take the kitten to the hospital for intravenous antibiotic treatment.
