Where do ticks on golden retrievers come from?

Ticks on golden retrievers mainly occur because ticks thrive in dark, damp grasslands and wilderness areas. They may also be found in park grasslands and greenbelts. Most dogs like to go to the grasslands to defecate, and at this time, ticks are waiting on the grass for dogs. Once a dog approaches, it is easily contaminated. Therefore, when taking your dog to play in areas with lush vegetation, it's best to put a tick prevention collar on it.

Symptoms of dog ticks

After a dog is bitten by a tick, symptoms may include restlessness, weakness in walking, even lying on the ground unwilling to move, loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Generally, when a dog owner discovers a tick infection, they should immediately seek medical treatment to prevent the disease from spreading and causing severe harm to the pet.

What to do if there are ticks on a dog

First, apply alcohol to the tick to relax or kill the tick's head. After a few minutes, use a sharp-ended tweezers to remove the tick. This method is the most rapid and effective but requires technique. You can also apply topical tick repellent to the back of the dog's neck, which will cause the tick to die and fall off automatically. Apply antiseptic to the wounded skin after removal and keep the area clean. Note that ticks should not be left in the skin, as they can cause infection. The wound is considered healed when the scab falls off and the dog's skin returns to its normal pinkish color.

What drugs to prevent dog ticks

You can use topical tick repellents containing pyriproxyfen, dichlorvos, or fipronil. As a new nicotinoid insecticide, pyriproxyfen can make external parasites overly excited and eventually die. Dichlorvos can repel and prevent external parasites from attaching to dogs and sucking their blood. Proper use of tick repellents can more effectively prevent dogs from becoming infected with parasites.
