What are the reasons for a cat's ears being hot?

A cat's hot ears may be due to high environmental temperature, stress, fever, or problems with the ear canal. It is recommended to first measure the cat's rectal temperature with a mercury thermometer. If the cat's temperature exceeds 39.5 degrees Celsius, it means the cat has a high temperature. It is also necessary to observe if there are any other clinical symptoms besides the increased temperature. If so, the cat should be taken to a pet hospital for diagnosis and treatment by a doctor who can combine the symptoms.

  1. High environmental temperature

Cat's heat dissipation function is relatively weak, so when the ambient temperature rises, it can lead to a rise in the cat's body temperature, resulting in hot ears. This is a normal phenomenon, and owners don't need to worry too much. Just move the cat to a shady and well-ventilated place to rest and provide plenty of drinking water.

  1. Stress

Some cats are timid, so when they arrive in a new environment or there are strangers at home, they may feel nervous or scared. At this time, because the cat is very tense, its heartbeat will accelerate, and the ears will show some congestion, so they will feel hot. But this situation usually won't cause other problems, and patiently comforting the cat can help.

  1. Fever

If you find that your cat's ears are hot, you can also touch its belly, groin, or even the soles of its feet. If they are all hot, it's worth considering that the cat might have a fever. At the same time, you can use a thermometer to measure the cat's rectal temperature. If it exceeds 39.2°C, it is likely to be a fever. It is recommended to continue monitoring; if the temperature doesn't drop or continues to rise, seek medical attention promptly.

  1. Ear problems

If a cat has ear problems, such as ear mites or external ear inflammation, it can cause inflammation and lead to hot ears.
