Why do dogs get distemper and parvovirus?
The main mode of transmission of viral infectious diseases such as distemper and parvovirus is contact transmission. The transmission of distemper also includes airborne transmission, which has a strong transmission capacity. The symptoms of distemper are mainly respiratory infections, such as coughing, sneezing, etc., while the symptoms of parvovirus are mainly digestive tract symptoms, such as diarrhea, vomiting, etc.
Distemper and parvovirus are severe infectious diseases caused by related virus infections.
The distemper virus exists in the tears, nasal secretions, saliva, urine, and exhaled air of sick dogs. If healthy dogs come into contact with the above secretions or air containing distemper viruses, they are likely to become sick. The parvovirus mainly exists in the vomit and feces of sick dogs, with the highest infectivity in feces. If healthy dogs come into contact with the feces of sick dogs, their chances of infection will rise sharply. The incubation period of distemper is generally 3-6 days, and the duration of the incubation period is mainly related to the immune status of the body and the toxicity of the infected virus. In general, the symptoms such as increased body temperature appear on the fourth day after infection. The early symptoms of distemper include increased body temperature, reduced appetite, and watery secretions from the eyes and nose. As the disease progresses, it usually transforms into mucoid or purulent secretions within 1-2 days.
The incubation period of parvovirus is generally 7-14 days, and most cases present with enteritis syndrome. The early symptoms are similar to those of common gastroenteritis, such as reduced appetite and soft stools. However, the development of diseases such as parvovirus is rapid, usually changing to severe vomiting and diarrhea within 1-2 days. The discharged stools are accompanied by a putrid smell, and dark brown or tomato-like blood is present. The disease quickly causes symptoms of dehydration such as sunken eyes and loss of skin elasticity, and requires timely medical attention.
