What are the reasons why a cat doesn't poop?

There are three main reasons why a cat doesn't poop:

  1. Insufficient food intake: If a cat doesn't eat enough food for a long time, it cannot produce enough feces, resulting in no poop. In this case, you can appropriately increase the cat's daily food intake. If the cat is a kitten, it is recommended to feed small amounts multiple times to avoid low blood sugar shock.

  2. Constipation: If the cat's food is difficult to digest or its intestinal peristalsis slows down, it can lead to constipation and the cat won't be able to poop. You can touch the cat's intestines to see if there are any hard strips or lumps. If so, you can give the cat some lactulose or enemas to relieve constipation.

  3. Gastrointestinal obstruction: If there are hairballs or foreign objects in the cat's digestive tract, it can cause an obstruction, preventing the cat from pooping. This condition may also cause vomiting. It is recommended to take the cat to the vet as soon as possible for inspection. In severe cases, surgery may be needed to remove the hairballs or foreign objects.

Additionally, it's possible that the cat has defecated elsewhere and the owner just hasn't seen it. In this case, the owner should closely observe the cat's defecation habits. If the cat doesn't poop for a long time, take it to the vet for a checkup.
