Why does my cat suddenly stop eating cat food?
Your cat may suddenly stop eating cat food due to several reasons. First, the cat food might have gone bad, so your cat refuses to eat it. Secondly, it could be that you've been feeding your cat too many cans or meat products, leading to picky eating. Additionally, your cat might stop eating cat food after getting sick. This could be accompanied by other symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and more. If you notice any abnormalities, take your cat to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment.
- Cat food gone bad
Cats have very sensitive senses of smell. If the cat food has been stored for a long time and gone bad, your cat will refuse to eat it. It's recommended to prepare fresh cat food daily and not store too much at once, or else the cat may refuse to eat it after a couple of days.
- Picky eating
If your cat simply refuses to eat cat food but eats other foods eagerly and shows no other abnormal symptoms, it could be picky eating. In this case, you can try adding some of the cat's favorite foods to the cat food, such as meat, cans, and snacks. Gradually reduce the amount of added food until the cat only eats cat food.
- Disease
If your cat stops eating cat food and shows symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea, it might be due to illness. Diseases such as colds and gastroenteritis can affect your cat's appetite. In this case, it's recommended to take your cat to the pet hospital promptly to determine the specific cause of the illness before starting treatment.
