Why doesn't the cat use the litter box to poop?
There are several reasons for this situation.
Reasons:
The litter box is too dirty and smelly: Cats are very clean, and if the litter box is not cleaned for a long time, it will have a lot of feces and urine in it. This makes it difficult for the cat to walk in it, and the cat may排泄在其他地方。
Change in litter box location: Once a cat gets used to using a specific place as a litter box, it will only use that place. If the litter box location is changed frequently, the cat will be very uncomfortable.
Choosing a litter box:
Choose an appropriate litter box according to the cat's size, preferences, and the type of litter. The general size should be 3-5 times larger than the cat's body, with a moderate height. If it's too high, it's inconvenient; if it's too low, it's easy to spill. Observe the cat's usage experience normally, and if it doesn't bury the feces directly after using the toilet or always poops on the edge of the litter box, it might not like the litter box, and it needs to be changed. Wood chip litter is more practical to use with a double-layer litter box.
The litter box should be placed in a fixed location, as far away from the food bowl as possible, relatively closed, and with less human contact. It should not be moved or changed randomly.
Will the cat be uncomfortable when changing litter?
Cats are sensitive animals, and subtle changes in the external environment can cause their stress reactions. Suddenly changing the litter's smell or texture may cause the cat to be uncomfortable, and the cat may have a stress response, possibly developing spontaneous cystitis. This manifests as the cat not going to the litter box to urinate, holding urine, urinating outside the litter box, producing less urine, and even bleeding. In severe cases, it may lead to death. Therefore, when changing litter, don't make sudden changes; instead, mix them gradually.
How to change litter:
According to the cat's lifestyle, cats will cover their excrement locally in their evolutionary process to avoid spreading odors and reducing the risk of being tracked by predators. Therefore, cat owners need to clean the litter box daily, and a thorough cleaning should be done every 15 to 30 days to ensure a relatively clean environment for the cat.
