Advantages and Disadvantages of Dachshunds

Advantages:

  1. Intelligent: Dachshunds are quite intelligent and have strong learning abilities. They can quickly understand and obey their owner's commands. Therefore, teaching them to use the toilet and refusing others' food can be quite easy for the owner.

  2. Independent: Due to their inherent independence, dachshunds can easily adapt to new environments and do not require constant supervision from their owners. This makes them easy to care for.

Disadvantages:

  1. Easily barking: Dachshunds are highly alert and tend to bark frequently when they feel unsafe. If raised in urban areas, this can be disruptive to neighbors.

  2. Prone to dirtiness: Due to their short limbs, dachshunds can easily get dirty while walking. Owners need to frequently clean them to ensure their fur stays clean.

  3. Easily gain weight: Dachshunds are prone to obesity. If fed excessively, they can develop cardiovascular diseases and lumbar compression issues, which harm their health. Owners should pay attention to controlling their weight.

  4. Pursuit tendency: Dachshunds were originally bred as hunting dogs, so they enjoy chasing small animals like birds and hamsters. If owners are not careful, these small animals may be eaten by the dachshund. Therefore, when taking the dachshund outdoors, owners must pay attention to keeping them on a leash to avoid unnecessary trouble. If other small animals are to be kept at home, it is necessary to place them in safe locations.

  5. Too much energy: As a sports dog, dachshunds have strong physical abilities and require much time from their owners for exercise.
