What to use for bathing kittens
When bathing kittens, you can add some shampoo to the water and then place the kitten in the bathtub. First, spray the kitten's back with water, then add some shampoo, and wash the kitten from the back of the head, neck, back, tail, abdomen, and limbs in that order. The movements should be quick, and try to finish as soon as possible. Be careful not to get water into the kitten's eyes and ears, as this can cause irritation. You can stuff cotton balls into the kitten's ears before bathing and remove them after the bath.
When can kittens be bathed?
Usually, kittens can be bathed starting from five months old. Because kittens under five months old have weaker physical fitness and are more prone to illness, it's best not to bathe them. However, kittens older than five months should also not be bathed too often, with 1-2 baths per month being appropriate. The oil on a cat's skin has a protective effect on the skin and fur, and excessive bathing can cause the oil to be lost, making the fur rough, brittle, and dull, and reducing skin elasticity. It can also be a cause of skin inflammation. Also, kittens that haven't completed their vaccine schedule should not be bathed during the vaccination period to avoid affecting the vaccine's effectiveness.
What to do if the kitten gets dirty?
If the kitten gets dirty, you can use a warm wet towel to clean it, preferably in front of a stove or in a room, and then use a dry towel to dry it. If the kitten has been weaned for a while, hasn't been vaccinated recently, hasn't changed food, hasn't changed environments, and isn't sick, you can consider giving it a bath, but the water temperature must be suitable and bathing should be quick and drying.
Precautions for bathing kittens
When bathing a kitten for the first time, first test the water to see how the kitten reacts. If the kitten resist too much, consider using a cat bag to avoid being scratched. Brush the kitten's fur before bathing to avoid ingesting fallen hair while bathing, which can cause hairballs in the stomach. After the kitten's bath, wipe away any water in its ears to prevent ear mites from breeding.
