Can a three-month-old dog get a shot if it has a cold?

A three-month-old dog with a cold should not receive a shot, as vaccines should only be injected when the pet is completely healthy. Many vaccines today are weakened vaccines, and if the pet has health issues, the weakened vaccine may infect the animal, putting it at unnecessary risk. The vaccine should be injected 7 to 10 days after the cold is healed, and never hide the pet's condition to administer the vaccine.

Healing Time of a Cold

Usually, a young dog with a cold will recover in 3 to 7 days. Stronger dogs with better immunity may recover in 2-3 days. However, some dogs may develop tracheitis, bronchitis, and other diseases if not rescued in time. Moreover, colds can also be caused by influenza viruses, which are contagious and may cause high fever in dogs.

Treatment of a Cold

Dogs around three months old have weaker immunity and are prone to catching colds. It is recommended to keep them in a well-ventilated area during sleep and to make sure their fur is dried thoroughly after bathing. If a dog accidentally gets sick, give it cold medicine, such as Maxing Shigang and Huizhonggankang. Combine with honeysuckle water or Isatis root, and take the dog to a pet hospital for treatment if necessary.

Signs of Recovery from a Cold

Dog colds manifest as respiratory infections or gastroenteritis. Judging whether the cold is healed mainly depends on whether the symptoms have disappeared. If the cold causes coughing, sneezing, and runny nose, the recovery criterion is when these symptoms disappear, and the internal inflammation is resolved. If the cold causes diarrhea, vomiting, etc., the recovery criterion is when the vomiting stops, the stool becomes formed, and the inflammation disappears.
