What to do with your cat at home when you go on a long trip
Preparing enough food and water
Food and water are essential for cats, so it's crucial to prepare enough before leaving on a long trip. If the trip lasts for a long time, consider buying automated feeders and water dispensers to provide timely meals and convenience.
Providing multiple litter boxes
Cats are clean animals, and they will defecate everywhere if the litter box is dirty. It's recommended to prepare more than one litter box and fill them with clean litter to avoid affecting the cat's defecation. If possible, ask a friend to clean the litter box every other day.
Handling hazardous items
Cats are curious, so it's essential to store away any hazardous items, especially wires, plastic bags, and toxic items before leaving. Larger toys that the cat can't swallow can be left out for the cat to play with.
Asking friends for help
If convenient, ask a friend to take care of your cat by feeding it, cleaning the litter box, and so on. If the friend is familiar with the cat, they can also visit the cat regularly to play with it. Install a security camera at home to monitor the cat's situation and interact with it to increase its sense of security and reduce its longing for you.
Note: It's generally not recommended to leave a cat alone at home for a long time, preferably no more than a few days. Otherwise, the cat's physical and mental health may suffer.
