How to handle your cat when moving to a new house
Don't rush to hold or touch your cat too quickly after moving to a new house. Due to the unfamiliarity with the new environment, your cat might exhibit stress reactions. So, when a small cat arrives at a new place, let it adapt to the environment first. Place the cat's food bowl and litter box in the same spot and don't randomly move them for a while so that the cat doesn't get lost looking for familiar items. You can also use some cat toys to play with your cat and relax its vigilance.
How long does it take for a cat to adapt to a new home?
Cats usually experience stress reactions when they move to a new home and take about 4-5 days to adapt. After arriving at the new home, provide your cat with a quiet and comfortable environment, avoid disturbing it, and let it relax its guard. After getting familiar with the new place for a day or two, you can use food to lure the cat and gradually familiarize it with your scent. You can also use a cat wand to increase interaction between you and your cat.
What if your cat keeps meowing after moving to a new home?
If a small cat keeps meowing non-stop after arriving in a new environment, it might be expressing its unfamiliarity and fear of the new place. When moving, bring some of the cat's old items with you, such as its toys, cat food bowls, etc. The cat might be meowing to find its owner or companions. During this time, the owner should spend more time with the cat to comfort it.
How to feed your cat after moving to a new home?
Owners can stroke and play with their cats to help them familiarize themselves with the owner. They need to buy daily necessities for their cats, such as cat food, goat's milk powder, cat wands, chew toys, cat litter, litter boxes, and beds. Prepare an appropriate amount of food for your cat. For kittens under 2 months old, it's better to feed them goat's milk powder. Once the cat adapts to the new environment, take it to the vet for deworming and vaccination.
