Cats usually give birth by themselves. During the process, pay attention to whether there are any difficulties in childbirth. Cats should be placed in a quiet place, and a nest should be prepared along with controlling the ambient temperature. Ensure that the kittens are healthy after birth. However, if there are difficulties in childbirth or the cat's physical condition is weak, the owner should assist in giving birth, and necessary send the cat to the hospital for a caesarean section.
Cat Childbirth Precautions
Prepare everything needed for childbirth in advance: scissors to cut the umbilical cord, hot towels to wipe the mouth and nose of the kitten when it lands and tears the amniotic sac, silk or cotton thread to tie the knot of the umbilical cord, and alcohol for disinfection. Pay attention to wash your hands and disinfect before the birth, and tie the umbilical cord immediately after the kitten is born.
Do Cats Need Assistance During Childbirth?
When a queen cat is pregnant and giving birth, she needs a quiet box or room. If the labor process goes smoothly and the kittens are in good condition, there is no need for assistance. If the queen cat does not give birth successfully within two hours after the amniotic fluid is discharged, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for an abdominal ultrasound examination as soon as possible. If the fetal heart rate is less than 200, emergency caesarean section is recommended.
How to Help a Blue Cat Give Birth
If the cat is not giving birth for the first time, she can deliver the kittens without assistance. If it's the cat's first birth, the owner needs to disinfect their hands. When the queen cat enters the nest to give birth, the owner should carefully observe and prepare disinfected scissors and a clean towel. After each kitten is born, cut the umbilical cord at about the size of a thumbnail distance, then use the towel to wipe the mucus in the kitten's mouth and nose. Hold the kitten's body with both hands, fix the head with your thumb, shake off excess mucus inside the body, wipe the kitten's body dry, and wait for the kitten to breathe and make a sound. If the queen cat has difficulties in childbirth, immediately send her to the pet hospital for a caesarean section.
