Symptoms of Cat Depression

The main symptoms of cat depression include:

  1. Depressed mental state
  2. Loss of appetite
  3. Preferring to hide in dark places
  4. Lack of activity
  5. Mood swings
  6. Sleeping excessively
  7. No interest in the outside world.

As time goes on, the cat may even show noticeable physical signs such as weight loss, thinning body, ignoring the owner, no response to sexual stimuli, and decreased mating desire.

Usually, after discovering these symptoms, it's necessary for the owner to take the cat to a professional pet hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

  1. A cat with depression will become less active, prefer to hide in dark corners, not want to interact with the owner, and become slow in responding to the outside world. It may also show signs of excessive sleeping.

  2. After a cat becomes depressed, it will be in a state of high tension at all times, with anxious emotions, mood swings, and being easily scared.

  3. Long-term depression can lead to a weakened mental state, loss of appetite, lack of vitality, and no interest in the outside world.

  4. If not treated in time, the cat may gradually lose confidence, care less about everything outside, and even show no interest in opposite-sex cats, leading to a state of not going into heat.

Note: Like humans, cats need companionship. If a cat has depression, the owner can take it out more often and interact more with it to help alleviate the symptoms.
