What drugs should be used for cat deworming?

Cat deworming drugs should be selected based on the type of parasite infection. If it is a regular internal deworming, it is recommended to use drugs containing ingredients such as milbemycin and praziquantel. If the type of parasite infection is confirmed, it is recommended to use the corresponding deworming drug. Finally, cats also need to do external deworming.

Cat deworming can be divided into internal deworming and external deworming, with internal deworming further divided into preventive deworming and therapeutic deworming.

Preventive deworming refers to the prevention of infection by common intestinal parasites such as tapeworms, roundworms, and hookworms. It is recommended to use drugs containing ingredients such asfenbendazole, milbemycin, and praziquantel, usually done every 2 to 3 months. Therapeutic deworming refers to the deworming measures taken when a cat has been infected with a specific parasite. For example, when a cat is infected with Giardia, the clinical manifestations are mainly related to the age of the dog. When young dogs are infected, they manifest as diarrhea, gray feces, containing mucus and blood. When adult dogs are infected, they only excrete foamy paste-like feces, with no significant changes in body temperature or appetite. It is recommended to use deworming drugs containing ingredients such as metronidazole or nitazoxanide. For coccidia infection, it is recommended to use sulfonamide drugs, or drugs containing amprolium. Mild coccidia infections usually do not show clinical symptoms, but severe infections can develop into watery diarrhea or hemorrhagic stools 3-6 days after infection.

Lastly, external deworming is also necessary. It is recommended to use drugs containing selamectin and permethrin. The drug can be dropped directly on parts of the cat's body that it cannot lick, such as the head and neck. The efficacy of external deworming drugs can usually last for about 30 days, and it is recommended to do external deworming once or twice a month.
