How long does it take for a cat to digest a meal?
There is no specific time for this, as it depends on the cat's eating habits. Cats can eat multiple times a day, so it's not certain how long their digestion takes. However, when raising a cat, you should note the following:
- Ensure proper vaccination and regular deworming.
- Pay attention when your cat frequently goes to the litter box, as it may indicate constipation or difficulty urinating.
Causes of Cat Indigestion
There are several situations that can lead to indigestion in cats.
- Poor digestion due to a sensitive stomach.
- Inability to adapt to a sudden change in food.
- Overfeeding by the owner.
When a cat has indigestion, we should consider what the cause is. For cats with a sensitive stomach, try to feed them easily digestible food and avoid overfeeding.
Symptoms of Cat Indigestion
Cats with indigestion often have bad breath, and you may notice a strong smell of mouth when they wake up or burp. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, bloating, and increased bowel sounds. If the indigestion causes diarrhea, the cat may have more bowel movements and the stool may have an acidic smell.
What to Feed a Cat with Indigestion
You can give your cat probiotics to improve the intestinal microbial environment, enhance intestinal peristalsis, and further alleviate indigestion. If the symptoms do not improve, consider switching to a different cat food, such as easily digestible cat food, and feed prescription intestinal cans. If there is still no improvement, further examination and treatment are recommended.
