Cat excreting mucus-like substance in stool
Stool refers to feces, and a cat excreting mucus-like substance in its stool may be caused by improper diet, enteritis, parasite infection, hairball syndrome, or feline distemper. It can be treated through general therapy, oral medication, and physical therapy. With active and effective treatment, the shape and color of the stool return to normal. If the condition continues to worsen, it is recommended for the owner to take the cat to a regular hospital for treatment.
- Improper diet
If a cat eats excessively and indulges in rich foods for a long time, it may affect normal digestion and cause undigested food to be excreted through the stool, which takes the shape of mucus. It is necessary to adjust the diet, eat small meals frequently, and avoid overeating.
- Enteritis
Usually caused by an unhealthy diet and bacterial infection, it can lead to damage to the intestinal mucosa, causing increased bowel movements, severe abdominal pain, and even purulent excrement that is white and resembles mucus. Medical advice should be followed to take antibiotics and anti-diarrheal medication.
- Parasite infection
Mainly caused by intestinal parasites, the color of which is white, parasites can be excreted through stool, making the stool look like mucus. Medical advice should be followed to take deworming medication.
- Hairball syndrome
This occurs when a cat licks its own hair and swallows it, causing hair to be excreted through the stool. Since cat hair is white, it resembles mucus when excreted. Feeding the cat with hair removal gel or following the doctor's advice to treat with vomiting induction can help.
- Feline distemper
A viral infectious disease, it causes intestinal damage, leading to symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and loss of appetite. It can also cause foreign objects in the stool, resembling mucus. Medical advice should be followed to take antiviral medication.
During treatment, the cat's physical condition should be observed at any time. If the condition does not improve, it is recommended to seek medical treatment.
