Cat pulls out string-like objects

Cat with thread-like objects in stool

It is likely that the cat is suffering from roundworms in its stomach, which can cause symptoms such as thinning and anaemia. In this case, it is best to go to the hospital for a stool examination to determine which parasite the cat has contracted, and then receive appropriate treatment. After that, targeted internal deworming treatment can be given to the cat.

Signs of roundworms in cats

If you find white, long and thread-like worm bodies in your cat's stool, it may be infected with roundworms. This usually occurs when the cat accidentally ingests worm eggs during outdoor activities or while eating. In this case, internal deworming is necessary.

How to treat roundworms in cats

Begin by using drugs such as piperazine, levamisole, and ivermectin for deworming. Ensure the cat receives proper nutrition during the treatment period. If the infection is severe, the cat may exhibit symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, and can be given medications to stop vomiting and diarrhea. If there are other allergic or neurological symptoms, consult a veterinarian immediately. After the cat recovers, regular deworming should be done to prevent further parasite infections.

What to do if your cat has roundworms

Collect the cat's fresh stool within 2 hours and take it to the hospital for a stool examination to determine if the cat has roundworms and the quantity of worm eggs. If only a small amount of worm eggs are found, the cat only needs to take oral Fenbendazole or Albendazole twice, with a 7-day interval between each dose. If there are worm bodies and a large number of worm eggs, the cat needs to take oral Heartguard three times or more, with a 7-day interval between each dose.
