Cat's Eye Difficult to Open

A cat's eye being difficult to open may be caused by reasons such as scratches, improper diet, excessive tear stains, inflammation of the eye, damaged corners of the eye, and injured retina. It requires general treatment and medication to improve, which is beneficial for the eye to recover normally. If the condition worsens, it is recommended for the owner to take the cat to a regular pet hospital for treatment in a timely manner.

  1. Scratches

If a cat accidentally scratches its eye, it can cause damage to the local soft tissues, leading to swelling and pain, and also affect the normal opening of the eye. Iodine solution should be used to wipe the local area. Once the local skin returns to normal, the adverse reactions can gradually subside.

  1. Improper Diet

If cats are often fed with salty food, it may cause an increase in eye secretions, which then accumulate at the corners of the eyes, making it difficult for the cat to open its eyes. It is necessary to adjust the diet and not feed cats with salty food. Eye cleaning is also required, and the eyes can be rinsed with running water.

  1. Excessive Tear Stains

If the tear stains are heavy, it may cause eye fatigue and affect the normal opening of the eyes, leading to squinting. In severe cases, it may cause local inflammation. Antibiotic eye drops should be used according to the doctor's advice.

  1. Eye Inflammation

Usually caused by conjunctivitis and keratitis, it can cause an increase in eye secretions. If not improved in time, it may accumulate at the corners of the eyes, causing abnormal eye opening. Cat-specific antibiotics can be given under the doctor's guidance.

  1. Damaged Eye Corners

If the eye corners are hit by heavy objects, it can cause local skin damage, swelling, and pain. In severe cases, it may cause local abscesses, affecting the normal opening of the eyes. Antibiotic treatment should be used under the doctor's guidance, and surgery may be necessary.

  1. Retina Damage

Mainly caused by retinal lesions, it can lead to decreased vision and blurred vision. When observing the cat's eyes, it may appear as if they are difficult to open. Surgical treatment is required under the doctor's operation.

During treatment, cats should take medication regularly or use topical drugs to alleviate eye damage and promote local recovery.
