Cat hasn't defecated for two days but has urinated

Defecation in clinical terms refers to bowel movements. If a cat hasn't defecated for two days but has urinated, it may be due to insufficient food intake, oily feed, constipation, hairball syndrome, or other reasons.

Firstly, if the cause is insufficient food intake and oily feed, not defecating is a normal phenomenon and there is generally no need to worry too much. If the absence of defecation is abnormal and accompanied by abdominal distension, nausea, and other adverse reactions, it is advised for the owner to take the cat to a regular veterinary hospital in a timely manner to identify the cause and further treat it.

  1. Insufficient food intake

If the cat eats too little, it will affect the normal excretion of food, resulting in no feces in the body but plenty of water, thus causing no defecation and frequent urination. You need to adjust the diet, increase the amount of food, but don't eat too much at once, otherwise, it is easy to affect digestion.

  1. Oily feed

If the food is too oily, it will affect the speed of gastrointestinal peristalsis, causing food to accumulate in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in acid reflux and nausea, and even affecting normal defecation. You need to adjust your diet and avoid feeding the cat with oily food. You can feed the cat with cat food containing vitamins or fibres.

  1. Constipation

Long-term excessive eating may cause gastrointestinal damage, affecting food excretion and leading to constipation. This generally does not affect the amount of urine output and requires compliance with the doctor's advice to take digestive enzymes to improve digestion.

  1. Hairball syndrome

If the cat suffers from hairball syndrome, it can cause intestinal blockage, affecting the digestive system and causing symptoms such as loss of appetite and difficulty defecating. You can feed the cat with catnip or hairball gel to help alleviate the symptoms. In severe cases, it is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital in a timely manner for treatment, otherwise, it may affect the cat's recovery.
