What to do if your cat hasn't pooped in 2 days?
If your cat hasn't pooped in 2 days, you can do the following: First, you can give your cat some lactulose orally, which can lubricate the stool and make it easier to pass. You can also inject some lactulose into the rectum. Second, you can give your cat some probiotics or feed it easily digestible food or kitten food. Unsoaked cat food and adult cat food are difficult to digest and can easily cause constipation in kittens.
Causes of cat constipation
If a cat hasn't pooped in 2 days, it may be due to one of the following reasons: 1) The cat may have megacolon, which damages the colon's movement function and prevents normal bowel movements. 2) It may be caused by nerve damage, such as spinal nerve damage or brain nerve damage. 3) It could be due to a rectal diverticulum or foreign body in the rectum.
What are the symptoms of cat constipation?
Early stage of constipation: The cat tries to defecate forcefully, with a small amount of sticky stool or smelly, watery stools. Later stage: The cat shows signs of restlessness, attempting to defecate but unable to do so, nervousness, crying, etc. Some sick cats may also show vomiting, a noticeable urge to defecate, frequent attempts to defecate but unable to do so, abdominal distension, gas, and diarrhea. Due to disorders of intestinal movement and secretion, the intestinal contents stagnate and dry up, causing incomplete or complete obstruction of the digestive system.
What to feed a constipated cat
Lactulose. Constipation in cats refers to no defecation for more than 3 days or long defecation times with dry, hard stools. If a cat is constipated, you can give it a certain amount of lactulose (0.5-1ml/kg) twice or three times a day. While using medication, you can also feed it low-fat, easily digestible prescription food to reduce stool formation. If there is still no defecation, it's necessary to go to the pet hospital for inspection to see if there are any issues such as swallowing foreign objects.
