Cat's urine is light red

Light red urine in cats may be due to hematuria. Cats with hematuria are likely to have diseases such as cystitis, urethritis, and bladder stones. It is recommended that owners take their cats to the pet hospital as soon as possible for examinations, including B-ultrasound examination, complete blood count, etc. If caused by bladder stones, the treatment plan should be decided according to the size of the stones. If the stones are large, surgery is required.

Light red urine dripping from cat's urethra

It is recommended to visit the hospital as soon as possible. First, consider whether there is hematuria. If there are stones or inflammation in the urethra or bladder, it may cause blood in the urine, and when hematuria occurs, light red urine will continuously drip from the urethral opening. Second, consider whether it is open pyometra, which is relatively rare in cats, and may drip red-yellow pus-like fluid.

What are the symptoms of cat urinary tract stones?

The clinical symptoms of cat urinary tract stones include frequency of urination, hematuria, urinary retention, ectopic urination, difficulty in urination, and frequent licking of the genitals. For example, cats with difficulty in urination may urinate outside the litter box. During urination, the cat may emit low whines. In severe cases, the cat may become lethargic, and partial or complete urinary tract obstruction can occur, leading to azotemia or uremia.

Treatment of cat urinary tract stones

Common clinical treatments include surgical removal, lithotripsy, and drug dissolution. Surgical removal is more effective, but due to the risk of anesthesia, conservative treatment can be chosen according to the severity of the condition. If the urethral stones are smaller than the urethra, they can be flushed out by drinking plenty of water and using furosemide to promote urination. If the stones are too large to be passed through the urethra, or even completely obstruct the urethra, surgical removal is necessary.
