Cat vomits after eating cat food

Cat vomits after eating cat food may be due to overfeeding, eating too quickly, sudden change in diet, feline distemper, hairball syndrome, or other reasons.

Firstly, if the cat vomits undigested cat food, it's suspected that the cat has eaten too much or too quickly, causing indigestion. Secondly, if the cat has recently had a change in diet, it's suspected that the new cat food is not suitable for the cat's gastrointestinal tract, resulting in vomiting. Furthermore, if the cat is a young cat without completing the vaccination schedule, feline distemper should be considered. Lastly, if the cat licks its hair excessively and cannot digest it, it can cause hairball syndrome, leading to obstruction and vomiting.

  1. Eating too much or too quickly

If the cat eats too greedily and quickly during mealtime, a large amount of food accumulates in the stomach, stimulating the stomach to vomit. In this case, the owner can prepare a slow feeder bowl for the cat to control its eating speed and amount.

  1. Sudden change in diet

When changing a cat's diet, it's necessary to follow a gradual approach. If this principle is not followed, it can easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort in the cat, resulting in vomiting. In this case, the cat food should be changed back to the previous one, and probiotics should be given to the cat to regulate the gastrointestinal tract. After eating for 5-7 days, the cat will gradually recover.

  1. Feline distemper

If the cat vomits after eating cat food, or even vomits without eating anything, it's time to consider the possibility of feline distemper, especially if the cat is young and has not completed the vaccination schedule. In this case, the owner should take the cat to the pet hospital in time for infectious disease screening. After confirmation, timely treatment will be provided.

  1. Hairball syndrome

If a cat suffers from hairball syndrome, the hairballs in its body will affect gastrointestinal digestion and absorption, causing gastrointestinal discomfort, and thus leading to vomiting after eating. Vomiting may even contain hair. In this case, the owner should pay attention to observe. If hair is found in the cat's vomit, the cat can be fed catnip or hair removal gel to help it eliminate hairballs from its body.
