Cat walking with arched back
A cat walking with an arched back may be due to reasons such as fear, abdominal pain, parasites on the back, spinal problems, neurological disorders, or deformities. It is recommended for the owner to pay attention to the observation. If the cat shows symptoms such as arched back, erect tail, and standing hair at the same time, it means the cat is scared or feels threatened, so it is in a state of alertness. This usually returns to normal after the cat's mood stabilizes. If the cat maintains this posture for a long time and accompanied by other abnormal symptoms, it may be due to diseases, and it is recommended for the owner to take the cat to the pet hospital for inspection in a timely manner.
- Fear
When a cat is scared or feels threatened, it will walk with an arched back and may also exhibit phenomena such as fluffing up its hair and growling lowly, ready to attack at any time. Therefore, it is recommended for the owner to stay away from the cat at this time to avoid being scratched, and the cat will return to normal after its mood stabilizes.
- Abdominal pain
Because arching the back can alleviate abdominal pain, when a cat has abdominal pain, it will also show an arched back. To this, the owner can try to press the cat's abdomen slightly harder. If the cat struggles violently and screams loudly due to the pain, it may be due to various causes of abdominal pain, such as acute enteritis, constipation, hernia, etc. Therefore, this situation requires timely inspection and diagnosis at the pet hospital.
- Parasites on the back
If a cat has not been dewormed for a long time and has parasites on its back, it will cause local itching, leading to the cat walking with an arched back. Sometimes, the cat can be seen constantly rubbing against furniture or other places to scratch itself. To this, the owner can check the cat's hair to see if there are parasite bodies or feces. If visible, it is likely an external parasite infection, and it is recommended for the owner to deworm the cat in a timely manner.
- Spinal, neurological disorders or deformities
If a cat has spinal or neurological disorders or deformities, it cannot walk normally with a straight back and can only walk with an arched back. This is more common in congenital skeletal deformities, acquired skeletal disorders, and nerve damage caused by trauma. It is recommended for the owner to take the cat to the pet hospital for related neurological examinations.
