Cat with crust on head
Cat with crust on head: This could be due to an external injury to the cat's head, causing skin damage, which then slowly healed and formed a crust. As long as the surrounding skin is not a problem, there is no need to worry too much, as it can usually recover on its own. However, if the cat has symptoms such as hair loss, dandruff, skin redness, itching, and others along with the crust, it might be a skin disease or an external parasite infection caused by the cat constantly scratching its skin. In this case, further inspection by a veterinarian is necessary for a definitive diagnosis.
- External Injury
If the cat has suffered an external injury to its head, such as accidentally bumping into something or getting scratched in a fight with another animal, and the owner does not notice in time, the wound will form a dark brown crust during the healing process. In this case, there is generally no major problem. The owner can check the cat's head to see if there are any obvious wounds. If so, use iodine to disinfect the affected area and let the wound heal slowly.
- Skin Disease
If the cat has a crust on its head, along with symptoms such as skin redness, increased dandruff, and itching, it could be a skin disease caused by bacterial or fungal infection. The cat's frequent scratching due to itching can cause skin ulcers, which then form crusts. As different pathogens require different drugs for treatment, it is recommended that the owner take the cat to a pet hospital for a skin scraping examination and then treat it accordingly.
- External Parasite Infection
If the cat has not been dewormed for a long time and is bitten by external parasites such as fleas or lice, it will often scratch its skin persistently due to itching, causing skin ulcers and crusts. In this case, the owner can carefully examine the cat's hair and look for flea droppings or visible parasites. If found, it is likely an external parasite infection, and it is necessary to consult a pet doctor in a timely manner and choose an appropriate dewormer.
