Diarrhea in kittens but good spirits
Kittens experiencing diarrhea but remaining energetic may be due to causes such as indigestion, enteritis, or parasite infections. In such cases, it is recommended that owners first observe the kittens by withholding food for a couple of meals. If the kittens recover, it might be due to overeating or eating too quickly, causing indigestion. However, if the diarrhea does not improve or is accompanied by vomiting, decreased appetite, and other abnormal symptoms, it is advised that owners bring their cats to the pet hospital as soon as possible for examination to determine the specific cause and subsequent treatment.
- Indigestion
Kittens have delicate stomachs and poor digestion. If they eat too fast or too much, they may experience indigestion, resulting in diarrhea but maintaining normal energy levels. To address this, owners can feed their kittens pet probiotics to regulate their digestion and alleviate vomiting symptoms. Additionally, caregivers should also pay attention to feeding cats with small meals throughout the day.
- Enteritis
Kittens may develop enteritis if they consume inappropriate food, are scared, or experience incorrect methods of changing diets. This can lead to diarrhea symptoms. At first, the kitten's spirit may not be affected, but later, they may exhibit vomiting, depression, abdominal pain, and increased body temperature. Therefore, owners must pay close attention and seek medical attention promptly if they notice any other abnormalities to prevent the condition from worsening.
- Parasite infection
Usually, kittens can undergo their first deworming after they reach one month old. If owners have not dewormed their kittens, symptoms of diarrhea may occur when the kittens are infected with internal parasites such as roundworms or tapeworms. Owners can check their kitten's feces; if they find parasites, it means that the kitten's stomach is full of worms, and they need to consult a pet doctor and choose safe and effective deworming drugs.
