Cat has diarrhea but is in good spirits

Diarrhea clinically refers to a condition of loose stools. A cat with diarrhea but good spirits may be caused by reasons such as catching a cold, eating spoiled food, not transitioning when changing cat food, intestinal parasite infection, bacterial dysentery, and ulcerative colitis. Improvement can be achieved through general treatment and oral medication.

Firstly, if the diarrhea is caused by catching a cold, eating spoiled food, or changing cat food without a transition period, it is a normal phenomenon and there is generally no need to worry too much. Secondly, if the diarrhea is abnormal and accompanied by other symptoms, such as bloating and vomiting, it is recommended that the owner take the cat to a regular hospital for treatment in a timely manner.

  1. catching a cold

If the weather is cold and the cat's body warmth is not well taken care of, it can lead to cold wind invading the abdomen, causing excessive intestinal spasms, and thus resulting in diarrhea. It is necessary to take warmth measures, such as adding clothes and applying hot water bottles, to alleviate the diarrhea.

  1. Eating spoiled food

If a cat eats spoiled food, it can cause a large number of bacteria and pathogens to damage the intestine, resulting in decreased gastrointestinal function, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The cat remains in good spirits and needs to drink more warm water to accelerate the speed of body metabolism and promote the excretion of spoiled food.

  1. Changing cat food without a transition period

If you are currently changing cat food and have not followed the rules for changing cat food, and the cat's stomach and intestines are relatively fragile, directly changing cat food may affect the normal digestion of food, resulting in diarrhea. However, this will not affect the cat's mental state and it is necessary to adjust the rules for changing cat food and feed gradually from less to more.

  1. Intestinal parasite infection

If the intestine is infected with parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms, it can damage the intestinal mucosa and accelerate the movement of the gastrointestinal tract, causing increased bowel movements. However, it will not cause abnormal mental state and medication to eliminate parasites should be taken according to the doctor's advice.

  1. Bacterial dysentery

Usually caused by Shigella infection, the clinical manifestations include fever, tenesmus, and mucous stools. When the gastrointestinal tract is invaded by Shigella, symptoms such as diarrhea and decreased appetite will occur, but there will generally be no abnormal mental state. You can follow the doctor's advice to give the cat special pet antibiotics and diarrhea medication.

  1. Ulcerative colitis

This is a chronic disease characterized by diarrhea and bloody stools. The course of the disease is slow. When the gastrointestinal mucosa is stimulated by inflammation, diarrhea occurs. In severe cases, it may cause dehydration and require medication for diarrhea and antibiotics according to the doctor's advice.

During treatment, adjust your diet and feed the cat cat food. You need to soften the cat food because the cat's digestion is still impaired. Softened cat food is easy to digest and generally does not affect the recovery of the disease.
