Differences between Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies

Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies are both popular medium to large-sized dogs. Not only do they differ in appearance, but their personality traits are quite different as well. When choosing to raise one of these breeds, it's best to consider your family environment and the amount of spare time you have.

Intelligence of Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies

Golden Retrievers have a higher IQ, with an adult Golden Retriever's intelligence equivalent to that of a 5-6-year-old child. In their long-term coexistence with humans, they can understand some daily vocabulary spoken by humans. Siberian Huskies rank 45th in canine intelligence, roughly equivalent to a 3-year-old child. However, this intelligence ranking is based on obedience, so the low ranking does not mean that Siberian Huskies are not intelligent, but rather that their obedience is not high. In fact, after training, the IQ of Siberian Huskies can be even higher.

Physical Features of Siberian Huskies

Size Standards: Male Siberian Huskies range from 21-23 inches in shoulder height and weigh 45-60 pounds; female Siberian Huskies range from 20-22 inches in shoulder height and weigh 35-50 pounds. Bone and Hair: Large head, large paws, and thick fur. Head: Medium-sized skull, proportional to the body; slightly round top, gradually becoming thinner from the widest point to the eyes. Almond-shaped eyes, the darker the eye color, the better the breed. Ears covered with thick fur, triangle-shaped and of moderate size. Neck: Slightly arched at the junction with the head, sturdy and upright, with a slightly rounded tip. Tail: Medium length fur, with roughly equal length on the top, sides, and bottom, resembling a fox's tail.

Physical Features of Golden Retrievers

Golden Retrievers have a coat color within nine major color series without any mixed hair, soft and shiny fur, and plenty of hair. Their eyes are clear and spirited, one of the four colors of brown, black, tan, or light tan, and there are no visible upper and lower eye whites when looking straight ahead. There is a distinct bone protrusion on the top of the head.
