DIY Dog Grooming: Shaving Your Dog's Coat
If a dog owner wants to shave their dog at home, they can follow these steps: brushing the dog's coat, giving them a bath, securing the dog, starting to shave, and taking precautions. However, the owner should also note that it is best not to shave the dog except in cases caused by illness, as shaving the hair will reduce the dog's skin resistance and make them more susceptible to skin diseases. Some dogs may become depressed, refuse to eat, or avoid going outside after being shaved.
- Brush the Coat
Before shaving your dog, the owner should first brush the dog's coat to remove dust and dead hair. The brushing can start from the head to the tail, brushing from top to bottom, and moving from the neck to the shoulders, then刷拭四肢和尾部。
- Give the Dog a Bath
After brushing the dog's coat, the owner can give the dog a bath to make the shaving process easier. Be sure to use a pet-specific shampoo when bathing your dog, and promptly dry their coat with a hairdryer after the bath to prevent the dog from catching a cold.
- Secure the Dog
Some dogs may resist being shaved, so it's best to have two people present during the process: one to hold the dog still and the other to perform the trimming.
- Start Shaving
After the coat brushing and bathing steps, the owner can begin shaving the dog. First, use scissors to cut the dog's hair short, then use a pet-specific shaver to shave the dog. When shaving, follow the direction of the dog's hair growth to avoid injury to the skin. Also, leave some hair behind instead of shaving close to the skin to prevent damage to the dog's skin or hair follicles, which could lead to delayed hair growth.
- Take Precautions
After shaving, the dog loses a layer of protection, so the owner should pay attention to protecting the dog, especially when taking them outside or letting them play in the grass. Without hair, dogs are more susceptible to bites from parasites, so it's a good idea to dress your dog. If the dog is being shaved due to a skin infection, however, it's not recommended to dress them, as this could exacerbate the condition.
