DIY Dog Grooming: Cutting Your Teddy's Hair at Home
Today, I'd like to share with you the process of grooming your teddy dog at home. Below are some tips and tricks based on my experience working at a pet store, which I hope will be helpful!
First, prepare the tools: Scissors, brushes, and various types of scissors. I personally prefer using fishbone scissors because they cut a large area quickly and are less likely to nick the dog's skin. (These scissors cost me a pretty penny, but they last a long time and look pretty professional!)
Step 1: Give your dog a bath before cutting its hair. Ensure the dog's hair is thoroughly brushed, as you'll be separating and straightening it during the cutting process. Make sure the hair is dry and straightened before starting. Blow dry it using a technique that goes against the grain for a smooth result.
Step 2: After the bath, use a wide-tooth comb to brush your dog's hair thoroughly, checking for any knots. Then, use a hair trimmer with a 0.6mm guard to trim the dog's body. This step is simple and time-saving. I've prepared a diagram to illustrate this step, so forgive me if it's not perfect!
Step 3: Once the body is trimmed, proceed to the legs. Use scissors to connect the trimmed body with the legs. The fishbone scissors are useful here, as they can create a trumpet leg shape. Don't expect perfection for the first time!
Step 4: Move on to the neck. Trim the hair on the neck upward, connecting it to the body. Be careful not to cut the dog.
Step 5: Next is the head. The head is relatively complicated, so I recommend leaving it to professionals if you're not experienced. For those who want to try it themselves, just trim the hair between your dog's nose and eyes. If you want to go all out, shape it into a circle. Avoid cutting a triangle, as it's easier to achieve a round shape by starting with a square and then rounding off the corners.
Step 6: Trim the tail. Roll the tail into a bundle and cut it into a square shape.
Step 7: I usually finish by blowing the dog's hair to remove any stray hairs. Then, take a photo as a keepsake!
Lastly, there's a simpler and more aggressive method. Many pet owners use this technique, which involves using a trimmer all over the body. This is particularly suitable for summer.
Enjoy grooming your teddy dog, and remember to be patient and gentle!
