Causes of Dog Back Arching

There are several main reasons for a dog's back arching:

  1. Parasite infection: If a dog has not been dewormed for a long time, parasites will multiply and writhe inside the dog's body, causing abdominal discomfort. The dog will try to alleviate the pain by arching its back. Moreover, this will also lead to a loss of appetite, poor nutrition, and a weakened immune system. To solve this problem, regular deworming is necessary to prevent this from happening.

  2. Joint diseases: If a dog has joint diseases such as arthritis or intervertebral disc herniation, it is likely to develop a back arch. This can even increase the risk of fractures and other joint diseases. Therefore, owners should avoid lifting dogs by their armpits or violently shaking them, as this can cause spinal injuries. Also, avoid letting dogs climb stairs frequently, as this intense movement can also harm them, especially small breeds and dogs prone to spinal problems.

  3. Malnutrition: If a dog's body lacks nutrients, it can also cause back arching. This can lead to physical deformities over time. Factors such as a single food source, imbalanced nutrition, calcium deficiency, or lack of essential trace elements can contribute to this. Therefore, owners should pay attention to whether the dog's food contains a balanced ratio of nutrients and replace it if necessary.

  4. Calcium deficiency: A dog's calcium deficiency can lead to improper joint and bone development, causing a back arch and even increasing the risk of fractures and other joint diseases. In this case, it is necessary to supplement calcium, but also avoid giving too much at once. It is better to consult a veterinarian for advice.

  5. Overgrown nails: If a dog's nails are too long, they can put pressure on the dog's bones and joints and easily pierce the pads. To reduce pain, the dog will walk with an arched back. This can lead to a deformed walking posture over time. Therefore, owners should trim their dog's nails regularly to alleviate discomfort.

In addition to these factors, cold weather and timidity can also cause dogs to arch their backs. Therefore, pet owners should carefully observe their dogs' daily habits to ensure their health.
