Dog has difficulty defecating
Dog has difficulty defecating may be caused by constipation, intestinal blockage, or other reasons, and it may also be due to the dog being young and not yet able to defecate independently. Owners should pay attention to observe. If the dog is a young puppy who has not been weaned, it may not know how to defecate independently. In this case, the owner can stimulate the dog's anus with paper towels or cotton swabs to help it defecate. If the puppy is able to defecate independently, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for inspection as soon as possible to find the cause and treat it accordingly.
- Constipation
If you can see the feces near the dog's anus but it simply can't defecate, it is most likely due to dry and hard feces. To address this, you can feed the dog some laxative drugs to loosen the feces or use drugs that expand the anus. Ensure the dog gets enough exercise daily to promote intestinal peristalsis.
- Constipation
If the dog has a long period without defecating or frequently assumes defecation positions but doesn't defecate, constipation is the main cause. In this case, feed the dog appropriate amounts of honey water or drugs containing lactulose to moisten the intestines and facilitate defecation. You can also use enemas to stimulate defecation.
Note that it is essential to provide the dog with enough drinking water during daily feeding, and combine a suitable amount of water-rich fruits and vegetables to promote gastrointestinal peristalsis and prevent constipation.
- Intestinal Obstruction
If the dog has difficulty defecating accompanied by vomiting, loss of appetite, and depression, it may be due to ingestion of foreign objects causing intestinal obstruction. In this situation, take the dog to the pet hospital for an X-ray examination to check if there are any foreign objects in the intestine. If an object is confirmed, surgical removal is necessary.
- Inability to Defecate Independently
If a dog under one month old has difficulty defecating, it may be due to the dog's inability to defecate independently at this stage. In this case, the owner can use a cotton swab dipped in warm water to stimulate the dog's anus and help it defecate.
