Dog Inflammation with Watery Swelling

There are many causes of edema in dogs, such as heart diseases like congestive heart failure, decreased plasma colloid osmotic pressure, causing peripheral edema in dogs, such as hypoalbuminemia, vasculitis, or venous reflux.

Causes of Edema

Low protein levels caused by kidney, liver, and intestinal diseases can lead to edema. Low protein causes a decrease in colloid osmotic pressure, allowing fluid to enter the tissue spaces from the blood vessels. Congestive heart failure causes increased venous and capillary pressures, leading to increased vascular permeability and fluid leakage. In addition, iatrogenic fluid overload can also be a cause of edema.

Causes of Hind Leg Edema

The causes of edema in a dog's hind legs include leg injuries, which can be severe if the dog refuses to move the leg. It is recommended to go to the pet hospital as soon as possible for examination. Arthritis can also cause edema, especially in older or overweight dogs. Besides taking the dog to the pet hospital for examination and treatment, it is also necessary to supplement calcium and other nutrients in daily life.

Symptoms of Pulmonary Edema

Dogs with pulmonary edema often have severe coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other respiratory abnormalities. They may also show signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, dull eyes, protruding eyes, and so on. X-ray or DR examinations of dogs with pulmonary edema can reveal extensive and diffuse shadows in the lungs.
