What should I do if my dog's eyes have bumps?

Dog eyes with bumps may be caused by factors such as heat, third eyelid hyperplasia, mosquito bites, and skin diseases. If the bump is on the inner edge of the dog's eye, doesn't grow, affects the dog's vision, and causes the dog to feel uncomfortable, scratch, and rub, it is likely third eyelid hyperplasia. In this case, surgery is required to remove the bump. However, if the bump is on the eyelid or around the eye, consider whether it is caused by heat, mosquito bites, or skin diseases, and consult a pet doctor for medication treatment promptly.

  1. Heat

If the food your dog usually eats is relatively dry, and your dog doesn't like to drink water, it is prone to heat, which can cause a small bump to suddenly appear on the eye, along with symptoms such as dark urine, bad breath, excessive eye discharge, and increased tear stains. In this case, adjust your dog's diet structure promptly and feed him some light foods, such as vegetables and fruits, and encourage your dog to drink more water.

  1. Third Eyelid Hyperplasia

If the bump is on the inner edge of the dog's eye, it is likely due to third eyelid hyperplasia. Because the dog will be bothered by the bump affecting its vision, it may repeatedly scratch it, leading to infection. It is recommended to consult a veterinarian and have the third eyelid removed through surgery. The dog will recover after two to three days of post-operative intravenous drip treatment.

  1. Mosquito Bites

Due to the sparse hair on the dog's eye area, it is prone to mosquito bites, which can form a red bump. To deal with this, ensure that your dog's living environment is mosquito-free, apply pet-specific antiseptic ointment to the affected area, put an Elizabeth collar on the dog, trim your dog's nails to prevent scratching, and the bump should gradually recover in about a week.

  1. Skin Diseases

If the bump is on the upper eyelid or around the eye, it could be a skin disease caused by bacteria or fungi, which may be accompanied by symptoms such as redness, itching, and crusting. It is recommended to take your dog to a pet hospital promptly for inspection to avoid delay in treatment. In daily life, especially during the rainy season, keep your dog's body and surroundings clean and dry to reduce the occurrence of skin diseases.
