Dog eyelid has a protruding bump
A bump on the dog's eyelid could be caused by various reasons such as trauma, insect bites, furuncles, styes, or eye tumors. Treatment options include medication, physical therapy, and surgery. With active and effective treatment, the disease progression can be controlled, the damage to the eyelid skin after illness can be reduced, and the condition is more likely to be stabilized. If the disease continues to worsen, it is recommended for the owner to take the dog to a regular pet hospital for treatment.
- Trauma
If the dog's eyelid skin is subjected to direct or indirect force, it can lead to local soft tissue damage, causing swelling, pain, redness, and even a protruding red bump. Initial treatment should involve alternating ice packs and heat packs, and medicinal herbs that promote blood circulation and alleviate pain can also be taken under a doctor's guidance.
- Insect Bites
If the eyelid skin is bitten by insects, the insect's venom can enter the dog's eyelid skin, stimulating the local mucous membrane and causing rashes and tumors. Treatment involves using anti-histamine and antibiotic ointments as prescribed by the doctor.
- Furuncles
A common skin disease caused by poor local skin hygiene and fungal infections, furuncles can lead to local hair follicle abscesses, atrophy, and the formation of bumps and itchy skin pain. Treatment involves taking pet-specific antibiotics and antifungal medications under a doctor's guidance.
- Styes
An infectious disease, styes can cause local abscesses and surrounding tissue damage, resulting in protruding bumps. Touching the bump may cause mild pain. Treatment involves using antibiotic eye drops as prescribed.
- Eye Tumors
If a tumor develops in the eye, it can cause local eyelid swelling. As the tumor grows, it may rupture, affecting normal vision. Surgical removal of the tumor is necessary under a doctor's supervision.
During treatment, it is important to maintain good eyelid hygiene in dogs. Rinsing with running water can help prevent bacterial proliferation and aid in recovery.
