Symptoms of dog fever

When a dog has a mild fever, the symptoms may not be very obvious, and the dog may just appear to be unmotivated and lethargic, which may not catch the owner's attention. However, if the dog has a more severe fever or a high fever above 40 degrees Celsius, the dog may exhibit symptoms such as loss of appetite, sleepiness, and decreased alertness. The owner can feel a high temperature on the dog's inner thigh, and the dog's nose will become very dry. If your dog has developed fever symptoms, it is important to promptly perform physical cooling or take the dog to the vet for fever-reducing drugs or injections.

  1. When a dog has a fever, if the temperature rises only slightly, there may not be any noticeable symptoms. The dog may become less active and constantly lie down or stay in its bed, looking unmotivated. The owner might mistakenly think the dog is just tired or lacks energy, delaying the treatment. However, if the temperature rises significantly, the dog may exhibit symptoms such as loss of appetite, sleepiness, lethargy, and dull reactions to external stimuli. The owner can feel a high temperature on the dog's inner thigh when touching it, and the dog's nose will become very dry, unlike its usual wet appearance.

  2. If the owner suspects that the dog might have a fever, they can use a mercury thermometer to take the dog's temperature by inserting it into the dog's anus.

A dog's normal temperature is usually 38-39 degrees Celsius. If the dog is not in a state of physical activity, but its temperature reaches above 39.5 degrees Celsius, it indicates that the dog has a fever. If the temperature rises to above 40 degrees Celsius, it constitutes a high fever.

  1. If your dog has developed fever symptoms, it is important to promptly perform physical cooling using alcohol or cold water. You can also feed the dog fever-reducing medication or give it a fever-reducing injection. Otherwise, the dog may easily develop life-threatening conditions such as dehydration, shock, difficulty breathing, and multiple organ failure.
