Dog keeps rubbing its head on the ground
A dog that constantly rubs its head on the ground may be doing so due to boredom, parasite infection, or discomfort in its ears. It is recommended that owners carefully inspect their dog's ears and skin to see if there are any abnormalities. If no abnormalities are found, it is likely that the dog is bored and entertaining itself. If any abnormalities are detected, it is best to take the dog to a pet hospital for inspection and treat it accordingly based on the examination results.
- Boredom
If the owner rarely plays with the dog, the dog may resort to rubbing its head on the ground or sofa when it's bored. As long as the dog doesn't show any other abnormalities, there shouldn't be any major concerns. Owners should simply spend more time interacting and playing with their dogs or provide them with more toys to keep them occupied.
- Parasite Infection
If the owner has not been treating their dog for parasites, and the dog's head and neck are itchy due to fleas or other parasites, the dog may try to alleviate the itch by rubbing its head on the ground. To address this, owners can check their dog's skin for signs of skin redness, hair loss, or lumps, and consult a pet doctor promptly to choose an appropriate parasite control medication.
- Ear Discomfort
When a dog is uncomfortable in its ears, it may also rub its head continuously on the ground. Owners can check the dog's ears by folding them back to look for any dirt or redness inside. If any are found, it's best to consult a veterinarian and have an ear discharge examination done to diagnose the problem and implement treatment measures accordingly.
