Dangerous period for dog menstruation

The dangerous period for a female dog's menstruation is around the 10th day, when the dog begins to ovulate. If mated, the dog is more likely to become pregnant. Therefore, if you don't want your dog to breed, it's best to keep an eye on it during this time, avoiding contact with male dogs. You can also dress your dog in sanitary pants or have it undergo sterilization surgery to prevent pregnancy.

During a dog's menstruation, special attention should be paid to hygiene to prevent bacterial infections in the reproductive organs.

Usually, during the estrus period, dogs show increased vaginal secretions, swollen vulva, and a small amount of blood in the secretions. A dog's first menstruation occurs around 8-10 months old, depending on the breed, size, and living conditions. After that, menstruation occurs every 4-6 months, lasting 7-14 days. Generally, female dogs are in heat in spring and autumn.

During a dog's estrus period, pet owners can do the following:

  1. Dogs in heat tend to be irritable, with decreased appetite, low spirits, and decreased resistance. Prepare nutritious, palatable, and easily digestible food for your dog, and avoid feeding it cold or spicy foods.

  2. Care for your dog's vulva during estrus is essential. Clean your dog with clean warm water or special pet vulva care sprays to prevent bacterial infections during menstruation.

  3. During estrus, it's recommended to dress your dog in sanitary pants to avoid frequent licking and infection.

  4. Avoid giving your dog a bath during estrus to prevent vulva infections or diseases due to decreased resistance during menstruation.

  5. Always use a leash when taking your dog out to avoid loss.
