What to do when your dog always holds urine when left at home

Dog not peeing at home

Mostly because they have formed the good habit of urinating outdoors, so in this case, the owner needs to prepare a fixed dog toilet and train the dog to use it. At the same time, it should be noted that during the training, patience is necessary. Never hit or scold the dog, otherwise, it will only bring greater pressure to the dog and greatly reduce the training effect.

  1. Prepare a dog toilet for your dog

If the owner doesn't have time to take the dog out for a walk, they can prepare a fixed dog toilet at home and try to buy some artificial grass or other items to create an outdoor lawn feeling. When the dog wants to pee, lock the dog in the toilet until it pees, and then let it out.

Note: The chosen location for the dog toilet must be kept away from the dog's eating and sleeping area, so that the dog is more willing to go to the designated spot to pee.

  1. Train your dog

If a dog has formed the habit of urinating outdoors, they won't urinate at home. Therefore, the owner can usually train the dog to pee at home. When the dog shows signs of peeing such as circling or half-squatting, lead it to the fixed peeing spot at home or the dog toilet, and encourage it to pee.

Note: After the dog has finished peeing, the owner can give it some snacks as a reward, so that the dog knows that peeing in this place will lead to food. With time, the dog will develop the habit of peeing in a fixed location.
