Dog seems lifeless, weak limbs, always lying down, what's wrong?
A dog that seems lifeless, weak limbs, and always lying down could be due to physical fatigue, hot weather, low blood sugar, calcium deficiency, cold, viral hepatitis, and distemper. If caused by physical fatigue and hot weather, the dog's overall weakness and lack of energy are a normal phenomenon and there is no need to worry too much. If the dog has other symptoms along with physical fatigue and hot weather, such as dizziness, slow bone development, and decreased appetite, it is recommended that the owner take the dog to a regular hospital for treatment in time.
- Physical Fatigue
If the dog is very active and runs around frequently, it will consume excess energy in the body, resulting in overall weakness and lack of energy. The dog may also often lie down, which is a normal phenomenon. Once the dog's energy levels recover, the adverse reactions will disappear naturally.
- Hot Weather
If the weather is very hot, it will affect normal breathing. Since dogs have poor heat dissipation capabilities, they will improve their breathing by opening their mouths, leading to lying down and not moving often. They may also feel without energy, which is a normal physiological phenomenon. You can cool down the dog, such as turning on air conditioning and fans, and its body temperature will return to normal once it reaches a certain level.
- Low Blood Sugar
Usually caused by insufficient sugar in the body, it can cause adverse reactions such as dizziness, lack of energy, and weak limbs, and even lead to syncope. You can improve it under a doctor's guidance by taking sugar- supplementing drugs.
- Calcium Deficiency
If a dog has long-term picky eating, it can cause a lack of calcium in the body, affecting normal bone development and leading to weak limbs, long-term lying down, and even abnormal behavior. The dog needs to follow the doctor's advice and take pet-specific calcium tablets for treatment.
- Cold
Mainly caused by bacterial and viral infections, symptoms include coughing, phlegm, rapid breathing, and lack of energy. The dog may also feel uncomfortable all over and unwilling to move. You can improve it under a doctor's guidance by taking antibiotics and antiviral drugs.
- Viral Hepatitis
Caused by viral infection in the liver, it can damage liver function and affect the body's normal operation. Symptoms include decreased appetite, lack of energy, and weak limbs. Treatment requires following the doctor's advice and taking antiviral drugs.
- Distemper
A viral infectious disease, it may damage the digestive system, causing decreased appetite and vomiting. It can also lead to overall weakness and fatigue. Treatment requires following the doctor's advice and administering antiviral drugs via intravenous drip.
During the illness, adjust the dog's diet, feed it high-nutrition food such as chicken breast and canned food, which can supplement the nutrients lacking in the body and help enhance its immune system, promoting recovery.
