What disease causes skin ulcers on dogs?
Skin ulcers on dogs are mainly caused by bacterial infections. There are many reasons for bacterial infections in dogs, such as inadequate care after trauma, which can lead to secondary bacterial infections. Additionally, fungal and bacterial mixed infections may occur, but bacterial infections are the main clinical manifestation. Since the dog's body has developed ulcers, the situation is relatively severe. It is recommended to bring the dog to a pet hospital for further examination and treatment.
What medications can be used for dog skin ulcers?
Dog skin ulcers can be treated with topical medications containing ingredients such as erythromycin and neomycin. Before using the medication, clean the hair around the affected area to expose the ulceration for later treatment. Then, use a clean blade to clear the ulcerated skin, rinse the wound with physiological saline to remove foreign objects and necrotic tissue, and finally apply the above-mentioned medications.
Can dog skin ulcers heal spontaneously?
Dog skin ulcers are usually too severe to heal spontaneously and require timely treatment. When a dog has skin ulcers, it is necessary to clean and disinfect the wounds promptly. Afterward, remove the ulcerated skin and adopt different treatment plans based on the wound's location and size.
If the wound is too large, deep, or corrupted, surgical intervention is necessary to remove the necrotic tissue. After the removal, suture the wound. If the skin ulcer is small and not deep, clean the affected area with physiological saline first, then with a mild disinfectant. After clearing and applying medication, isolate the wound with a gauze pad and use antibiotics to prevent secondary infections.
Precautions:
When a dog has skin ulcers, it is best to undergo relevant examinations to determine the infection status of the wound and use corresponding antibiotics to avoid severe sepsis caused by wound ulcers. During treatment, dogs should wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent scratching the affected area and causing secondary infections. Also, avoid taking dogs outdoors during hot weather or rain to prevent infection from worsening.
