Causes of a dog being too thin
The usual causes of a dog being too thin include picky eating, poor nutrition absorption, irregular diet, laziness, inadequate exercise, uneven nutrition, illness, poor appetite, internal parasites, chronic diseases, and infectious diseases. Some pet owners may overlook the gradual weight loss of their dogs due to visual fatigue, and by the time they notice the weight loss, the dog's condition may have worsened significantly. Therefore, pet owners should regularly measure their dog's weight.
What to do if your dog has a good appetite but is still thin
The cause of a dog being thin despite a good appetite is usually due to internal parasites. Owners can take their dogs to the animal hospital for deworming. If the dog shows signs of vomiting or defecating parasites, the owner should give the dog another deworming treatment after 15 days. Another possible reason is that the food the dog eats lacks nutrition or has an uneven nutrient profile. Owners can switch to a dog food that better suits their dog, such as breed-specific or natural dog food.
Reasons for a dog's thin hind legs
There are usually two reasons for a dog's thin hind legs. The first is poor nutrition, which leads to overall poor development. Owners should supplement their dog's protein and nutrition, such as by feeding them sheep milk nutrition paste. The second is muscle atrophy in the hind legs, which requires a visit to the veterinarian for examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Owners should also massage their dog's hind legs regularly.
What to feed a dog to gain weight
If you want your dog to gain weight, unneutered dogs will generally gain weight after neutering due to the hormonal changes that increase energy supply. For adult dogs, since their bodies have already developed fully, you can feed them more frequently or make dog food at home to increase nutrition. If your dog eats a lot but still doesn't gain weight, consider whether they have received proper deworming, as too many internal parasites can suck up the dog's nutrition, preventing them from gaining weight. In general, eating more and moving less will lead to weight gain.
