Dog with green crusts around eyes
Green crusts around a dog's eyes may be caused by eye infections, internal heat, or infectious diseases.
Eye infections: Infections caused by trauma, foreign objects, viruses, or bacteria lead to conditions such as corneal inflammation, conjunctivitis, and blepharitis, which cause increased production of green crusts. Consult a veterinarian in time and use pet-specific eyedrops to kill bacteria and reduce inflammation. If the condition does not improve after a few days of using the eyedrops, it is recommended to take the dog to the pet hospital for examination and treatment.
Internal heat: If a dog's diet contains excessive oil and salt, it can lead to internal heat and cause increased secretion of green crusts. To address this, immediately adjust the dog's diet, keeping it light and avoiding oily and salty foods. Feeding fruits and vegetables in moderation can also help. Ensure the dog has enough water and clean its eyes with wet cotton buds regularly (3-4 times a day) to remove foreign objects around the eyes. Consult a veterinarian before using medications to reduce internal heat.
Infectious diseases: If a dog is young and has not been vaccinated, green crusts around the eyes may indicate an infectious disease. For example, one of the symptoms of distemper is an increase in eye secretions, which can even cover the entire eye. The dog may also have a fever, cough, yellowish-green mucus, and even seizures. If you suspect this is the case, take the dog to a pet hospital for professional treatment immediately.
