What do blind puppies eat?
The intestinal tract of a young dog who has just been born is fragile, and the feeding method is especially important. The best food choice is breast milk, which not only provides sufficient nutrition but also immunoglobulins for the puppy. If there is no breast milk available, you can purchase canine-specific goat's milk from a legitimate source and feed the puppy in small amounts frequently - four to six times a day.
Young Dog Feeding Methods
The normal nursing period for a newly born puppy is about six weeks. If breast milk is needed as a substitute, feed the puppy every three hours in the first week using specialized young dog formula. After three weeks, you can supplement the formula with warm cereals aside from the formula, feeding every six hours. The puppy can be weaned around six weeks. After weaning until about three months old, feeding times should be set at 7 am, 12 pm, 5 pm, and 10 pm nightly. Mix enough warm water into the dog food to soften the dry kibble or grind the kibble into a powder and mix with powdered milk before feeding. From the fifth month to the eighth month of life, feed the puppy three times a day - in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The amount of food given during this period is approximately one-third to one-half of what an adult dog would consume.
How to Care for Newborn Puppies
If the mother dog takes care of the newborn puppies herself, we can relax knowing that they are in good hands. Just make sure their living space is warm and monitor if the mother dog accidentally lies on the puppies. If the mother dog is unable or unwilling to care for her puppies, we must take on the role of the mother. The first priority is keeping them warm, and the second is to feed them every two hours with goat's milk. Almost every four hours, help the puppies defecate by gently stimulating their anus and urethra with a cotton swab dipped in warm water.
Newborn Puppy Feeding Precautions
When a puppy is born, the owner should pay attention to its warmth and ensure that the mother dog receives adequate nutrition to ensure sufficient milk production. Usually, a mother dog who has given birth once can produce five or more puppies in subsequent litters. The owner should regularly observe the puppies to prevent them from being squashed by the mother and check if they are getting enough to eat. When the puppy's belly swells and has white spots, it means they are full.
