Feline Pulmonary Edema Inflammation
Feline pulmonary edema may present with symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, respiratory distress, or symptoms of the underlying disease. Pulmonary edema can cause immediate death, and light-colored foam can be seen in the trachea, larynx, or nose. The diagnosis of pulmonary edema in most dogs and cats relies on X-ray examination to observe whether the lungs have typical X-ray findings, combined with medical history, physical examination, echocardiography, and biochemical tests to determine the specific cause.
Causes of Pulmonary Edema
There are many causes of pulmonary edema in cats. Common causes include bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections, pulmonary inflammation caused by foreign bodies, chemical stimuli, and respiratory allergies. Cardiovascular diseases, blood volume overload and pulmonary hypertension caused by various reasons. Excessive medical fluid administration. Electric shock, poisoning, etc.
Can Pulmonary Edema Be Cured?
Pulmonary edema in cats can be treated. The prognosis of cats with pulmonary edema depends on the severity of the edema and the treatment or discovery of potential diseases. Early treatment during the formation of the edema can improve the prognosis. The prognosis of cats with acute respiratory distress syndrome is guarded or poor. Cats with pulmonary edema should be housed in cages to reduce stress and prevent exacerbation of the disease.
Treatment of Pulmonary Edema
Since pulmonary edema can cause respiratory difficulty in cats, owners need to take their cats to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible. If the pulmonary edema in cats is caused by an allergic reaction, adrenaline and antihistamine drugs can be used for treatment. If the pulmonary edema in cats is caused by hypoproteinemia, plasma or whole blood transfusion is needed for treatment. If the pulmonary edema is caused by poisoning, timely detoxification is required. If the pulmonary edema is caused by increased vascular permeability, drugs such as dexamethasone and cortisone can be used for treatment.
