First Aid for Dogs Accidentally Eating Rat Poison

Many parents in residential communities with lots of children oppose having dogs at home, afraid that they might harm their children. Some parents even intentionally place rat poison in the community, which many dog walkers overlook. What should you do if your dog accidentally eats it? Today, Mushroom wants to share some first aid tips for dogs who have eaten toxic substances.

  1. If your dog eats toxic food, such as rat poison, lift its hind legs with both hands, try to turn its stomach downward, and gently shake it up and down.

  2. Stick your fingers into one of the dog's sides and deeply hook inward to encourage vomiting. Repeat if the dog doesn't respond.

  3. Press down on its abdomen with both hands, being careful with your strength. You can do this about 15 times.

  4. Place your palm on the dog's shoulder blades, one fist below the other, and gently tap around 15 times. Since the food in its stomach hasn't been digested, the dog will likely cough up the food.

Lastly, please note: When taking your dog out for a walk, always attach a leash to avoid harming children and to protect your dog's safety. This will help prevent your dog from accidentally eating rat poison.
