How long does it take for a dog to recover from a cold?

The duration of a dog's recovery from a cold mainly depends on the symptoms and the dog's own immune system. If the symptoms are just runny nose and the dog's spirit and appetite are good, it usually takes 1 to 2 days to recover. If the dog has a runny nose with pus, and its spirit and appetite are poor, it usually takes 3 to 5 days. If the cold is accompanied by coughing, it will take the longest, usually 5 to 7 days.

Chances of Self-healing from a Cold

If a dog's cold is very mild and its own resistance is strong, such as native dogs and adult dogs, it is likely to recover on its own. When young dogs have a low resistance and show cold symptoms, especially if they haven't finished their vaccinations, we should first suspect whether they have contracted an infectious disease, and it's best to go to the hospital for an infectious disease examination to confirm.

Symptoms of a Cold

Signs of a dog cold include poor spirit, lethargy, liking to lie down, and runny nose. Note that it should be watery, not purulent or colored. There are also symptoms such as sneezing and coughing, which are similar to distemper, canine parainfluenza, and bronchitis. Other symptoms include conjunctival congestion, watery eyes, loss of appetite, and increased body temperature, usually between 39 and 40 degrees Celsius.

Treatment of a Cold

If a dog has only mild cold symptoms, such as coughing, the owner can give the dog pneumonia medicine, Ephedra- almond- Licorice-coffee compound, and Niyanping等 drugs. If the dog's condition doesn't improve after taking medicine or even gets worse, or if the dog's condition is severe, it is necessary to go to the animal hospital for treatment promptly. Early treatment can avoid delays and worsen the dog's condition.
