How many times a day should I feed my dog?

Feeding your dog should follow the principle of regular meals and portion control. For young dogs, you can feed them 3-4 times a day, choosing nutrient-rich puppy food and soaking it in water or goat's milk before feeding. As the dog grows to 4-6 months old, you can reduce the feeding frequency and start feeding dry food. For adult dogs, they usually need to be fed 2-3 times a day, choosing balanced adult dog food. If the owner is unable to feed at regular intervals, you can reduce the feeding frequency under the dog's adaptation. Always observe the dog's stool and adjust the amount and frequency of feeding according to the situation.

Dogs have a weak sense of satiety. If a large amount of food is placed in front of them, they will eat unrestrainedly, causing bloating and indigestion. It is recommended that owners adopt the principle of multiple small meals.

During this period, owners need to observe their dog's stool. When the dog eats an appropriate amount of food, the stool will be shaped like a log, and the stool volume and color will be normal. If the dog eats too much, it will have soft stools. If the dog doesn't eat enough, the stool volume will decrease. Owners should adjust the feeding amount and frequency based on the actual situation.

  1. Adult Dogs

Adult dogs usually need to be fed 2 to 3 times a day, and the feeding amount should be determined according to the instructions, exercise level, and weight. Owners can also slowly train their dogs to be fed twice or once a day, and then feed them regularly at fixed times and quantities.

Adult dogs are recommended to choose balanced adult dog food. Occasionally, you can mix dog food with cans to enhance the dog's palatability and water intake. You can also give your dog some prebiotics and probiotics weekly to promote digestion and absorption.

  1. Puppies

The digestion ability of puppies is generally weaker than adult dogs, so it is appropriate to increase the feeding frequency per day, but reduce the amount of each meal. Puppies aged 3 months can be fed 3-4 times a day, 3 times a day for puppies aged 3-6 months, and 2-3 times a day for dogs aged 6 months to 1 year. Otherwise, it may increase the burden on the dog's gastrointestinal tract, causing indigestion, vomiting, and diarrhea.

It is recommended to choose high-nutrition puppy food and soak it in warm water or milk before feeding. You can also supplement with milk powder, milk cake, and other nutrient-rich products. Once the dog is 4 months old, it can start eating dry food.
